What to Expect from your IAS Career Path

An IAS career path is the right option for you if you are looking to be a civil servant with a job that includes the governments policy formulation and implementation. Here is what is expected from you and how you will progress when you choose this type of career.

There is a training that is required when you are selected in this type of career. You will be taught the foundation which includes the laws and policies as well as completing the required physical activities. This process is usually done within four months. You will then have to spend a few years under probation on a specific region of the country. You will work directly with the government during this time of probation. You are also required to pass an examination on civil services.

After you have passed the examination you can then join a junior time scale salary range. You are required to be in this rank for a period of at least four years in order to advance to the next rank. You will then rise to senior time scale where the pay is higher and you have bigger tittles. The period of time that you are required to be at this level is at least nine years. The next level is known as the junior administrative grade which comes with increased responsibilities thus increase in the pay. You however, are required to posses several skills in order to rise in the different ranks. These skills include, leadership skills. It is advisable that you know more about the people living in the country and the different issues that they are facing and how to deal with them. You should be able to give orders to other people and be able to deal properly with crisis.

Here is what will be required of you on a daily basis. You will be required to properly represent the government and even sign agreements. You will also be required to carry out operations that involve different ministries. Learning a new language may be part of your requirements in order to work in a foreign country. Sometimes you will find yourself working with different NGOS in your daily activities. You should be able to do a proper research on the articles that are available in the internet in order to ensure you have what it takes.
